Ratings Logic

Rating: 5 out of 5.

An amazing read that not only ticks all of my personal boxes but will likely tick yours…and might even transcend it’s genre! A book I keep thinking about.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

A really, really good book. Might even be a 5-star read for lovers of it’s genre. I will often recommend this book when someone asks “I’m really in the mood to read a good <insert genre here>…”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

A good book that I liked but didn’t love. I will often refer to a 3-star book as “a solid read”.

Rating: 2 out of 5.

A book that may work for others but not for me. It may contain certain plot elements or devices that I just don’t like – gas lighting, an unfair fight (animal abuse, child abuse, manipulating someone who is mentally ill all fall under my “unfair fight” rule), insta-love, big villainous monologues and unreliable narrators.

Rating: 1 out of 5.

A book that not only didn’t work for me but is very unlikely to work for others.
