New music find: Your Vegas

by Kelly

I first saw this band mentioned in an article in Spin Magazine.  Mark Hoppus (bassist for Blink-182) does a series for the magazine called “Hopp on Pop” where he shares some of his favourite musical finds.  His description of this particular band was “Imagine the best parts of Coldplay, the Killers, and Keane (alliteration rock!!) put together in one group…”  How could I not be interested after that comparison?  The article also mentioned a number of bands that I already like (the Temper Trap, Matt & Kim and fun.) so I thought Mr. Hoppus’ recommendation would definately be worth a listen and worth sharing here.

Originally from Leeds but now based in New York, Your Vegas formed in 2004 and released their first album “A Town And Two Cities” in 2008.  They are avid football fans and formed their own team called Champions United named after the football anthem they wrote, “Champion“.  They played a charity match in 2008 against Hollywood United – an amateur team founded back in the late 1980’s by a group of British ex-pats that included members of The Sex Pistols, The Cult and Def Leppard.  Other well known stars have continued the tradition and the team at various times has included Jason Statham, Vinnie Jones, Robbie Williams and Ziggy Marley to name just a few.

Here’s their song “In My Head“:

Here is an acoustic version of their song “Troubled Times“:

And here’s an interview with them from the summer of 2009:
