Death Cab For Cutie pays tribute to John Hughes

by Kelly

Death Cab For Cutie are one of my favourite bands.  David once asked me out on a date to see them in concert – and then flew me down to Las Vegas to see them at The Joint.  Both the concert and the trip hold wonderful memories for me.

I just found out that they did a tribute to John Hughes at The Critics Choice Movie Awards aired on VH1 last night (January 15th) and performed Simple Minds “Don’t You (Forget About Me)“.  I can’t seem to embed the video but here’s the link of the performance posted up on the VH1 site.

John Hughes passed away in August of 2009.  He wrote and directed a number of really great movies including The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Beullers Day Off and Weird Science to name a few.  He was also known for including memorable songs in all of his movies (they always fit so well with the movies).

Who can forget Psychedelic FursPretty In Pink“?

Or Simple Minds original “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”

And one of my favourite scenes from Ferris Beuller’s Day Off with the BeatlesTwist and Shout

And finally, here’s a great John Hughes tribute mashup to Phoenix‘s “Lisztomania“:

I think Death Cab For Cutie paid fitting tribute to a writer and director who impacted an entire generation of movie-goers.
